Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions When Installing
If you change the user privileges of the computer you are using and run the installer, the installation may not be performed correctly. In this case, log in as an Administrator, and then retry the installation.
If you use this driver in a server based computing environment, use an operating system that supports the driver on the client computer.
When installing a driver on a server PC with an SMB (NetBIOS network) printer used as a shared printer specified, use the Add Printer Wizard to install it as a network printer.
In environments where Server Core is installed to a Windows Server operating system, you cannot use this driver installer. Use the installation function of the operating system to install the driver.
If you install this driver using the installer with default settings, all Generic Plus drivers that are already installed will be updated to their newest versions. To add the newest version of a driver without updating drivers that are already installed, do so according to one of the following procedures.
In the screen for checking the [Printer List for Driver Installation] displayed during installation, select and remove the devices that you do not want to update from [Select Printers to Update], and proceed with the installation.
Specify an inf file with the add printer function of Windows.
When installing an older version driver than the driver that is already installed, if a dialog box asking whether you want to use the current files is displayed, allow them to be used.
If double-byte characters are included in the device name in an English operating system environment, you cannot retrieve the device status from [Device Settings] sheet > [Retrieve Device Status Information]. If this happens, change the name to one that does not include double-byte characters.
If you are using a shared printer in a print server (Point and Print) environment, it is necessary to install Canon Driver Information Assist Service in the server computer in order to use the acquire device information function.
Also, if you are using Microsoft BiDi Communication instead of Canon Driver Information Assist Service, you can switch between them in [Details] > [Other Settings] in the [Device Settings] sheet.
Depending on the environment you are using, the names in [Profile] and of custom paper sizes may be unintelligible. If this happens, install the appropriate language pack.
Add-in software that is sold separately cannot be installed to this driver.
Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions When Printing
If you print a document that has an odd number of pages as a two-sided document from an application, the application may automatically insert a blank page to bring the number of pages up to an even number. When this happens, the blank page inserted by the application is counted up in the same way as a printed page.
To use this printer, you must first set the type of printer you are using and the options installed in the printer in the [Device Settings] sheet of the printer properties dialog box. If you select functions in the printer driver that are not available for the printer you are using, it may result in unintended print results.
If you set a paper source that is not installed in the printer, paper will be supplied from the printer's priority paper source.
If the paper source you have specified and the paper size do not match, an error will occur.
If you specify 2-sided printing for a printer that does not support 2-sided printing, the document will print on one side of the paper.
If you specify stapling for a printer that does not support stapling, the document will be printed unstapled.
If you specify saddle stitching for a printer that does not support saddle stitching, the document will be printed without saddle stitching.
If you select [Output Method] > [Store] when printing from a printer that does not support mail box storage, the document will be printed normally. If an error is displayed on the touch panel display of the printer and the printer goes offline, the document is printed when the printer goes online again.
If you specify department ID management for a printer that does not have department ID management, an error will occur.
Depending on the combination of options of the printer you are using, the printer driver may not recognize the installed options in [Device Settings] sheet > [Retrieve Device Status Information]. In order to use the unrecognized options, set them manually in the [Device Settings] sheet.
If functions that are not supported by this driver are set on the control panel of the device you are using, the functions set on the control panel of the device are enabled when printing.
Depending on the device you are using, paper types and paper sizes that cannot be supplied and information on unusable functions may be retrieved by [Device Settings] sheet > [Retrieve Device Status Information].
The custom paper sizes that can be set for the functions in [Device Settings] sheet > [Finishing Settings] (2-sided printing, stapling, etc.) vary between printers. For details, refer to the manual supplied with the printer.
When a device is connected via USB or WSD, you may not be able to use the acquire device information function, department ID management function, and user authentication function.
If you print diagonal fine lines, such lines may not print correctly (they do not appear on the page or may appear to be broken).
If you are using Server Core in a Windows Server operating system, some print settings are not available under a local environment or Windows Remote Desktop environment.
If you click [Retrieve Device Status Information] in the [Device Settings] sheet, the configuration information of the device is acquired and many of the settings in the [Device Settings] sheet are automatically configured. However, [Paper Source Settings] in the [Device Settings] sheet and some of the settings in the [Detailed Settings] dialog box must be set manually.
The items that can be set in in the print settings screen of the driver change depending on the settings in the [Device Settings] sheet. If you customize the driver using the Canon Driver Configuration Tool, set each sheet in the print settings screen after setting the [Device Settings] sheet.
When you select [Auto [Color/B&W]] for [Color Mode] on the [Basic Settings]/[Quality] sheet, black-and-white pages may be counted as color pages, depending on the data, application, or driver settings. If you want to print a document as a black-and-white job, select [Black and White] for [Color Mode].
If you specify color printing for a black and white printer, the document will be output in black and white, but the print quality may deteriorate and printing may take some time.
Custom paper sizes can be registered on the print settings screen displayed in "To Change the Default Settings." After logging on with Administrator privileges, register the custom paper size from [Page Setup] > [Custom Paper Size] in the print settings screen.
There are cases where the range of custom paper sizes that can be specified using the driver and the paper sizes that the printer can print differ. For information about custom paper sizes that can be printed, refer to the manual provided with the printer.
If the paper size loaded in the paper source differs from the default paper size, an error message may be displayed on the control panel of the device indicating that there is no paper. If this happens, retrieve the device status information or select a configuration profile that matches the device in the driver.
If you cancel a job from the spooler while printing via a USB connection, you may not be able to print via a network. In order to be able to print from a network, cancel the print job from the control panel of the device.
If the display language of the driver and device do not match, the job name, user name, or stored data name, etc. may not be displayed correctly on the device.
Printing may not be performed correctly if both of the following are set.
[Device Settings] sheet > [Details] > [Finishing] sheet > [Collate [By Device]] > [Off]
[Finishing] > [Collate]
If a secure print job is stored in the device, other print jobs may not print. If you still cannot print the other print jobs after outputting the secure print job, reprint them from the computer.
If you specify two or more copies to print, the following phenomena may occur.
If you specify [Output Method] > [Secure Print], one copy will be printed for each time you enter [PIN].
If you specify [Output Method] > [Store], the number of copies to print and print job specified at the device will be saved and the number of copies for each will be one.
In this case, if you set either one of the following, printing will be performed correctly.
[Spooling at Host] > [Disabled]
[PS Output from Application] > [Off]
If you are using this product in Japan, the following restrictions apply.
If [Drawer 2] is set for the paper source of the envelope feeder on the [Device Settings] sheet, the following sizes of envelopers cannot be correctly fed.
[Envelope Monarch]/[Envelope No. 10 (COM10)]/[Envelope DL]/[Envelope C5]/[Envelope B5]
Even if [2/3 Holes]/[2/4 Holes]/[4 Holes [Swedish]] is selected in the [Device Settings] sheet > [Finishing Settings] > [Punch], the punch holes of [3 Holes] or [4 Holes [Swedish]] will not be made, as they are not supported by the device.
When you select [Tab Paper] for [Sheets to Insert] and select [Drawer 2] for [Paper Source] in the [Insert Sheets Settings] dialog box of the [Paper Source] sheet, the tab paper will not be correctly output from a device that does not support this combination of settings.
Depending on the printer you are using, in the following cases printing may take longer than usual.
If you specify portrait orientation when printing from an A4 (landscape) paper source.
If you specify landscape orientation when printing from an A4R (portrait) paper source.
If you specify landscape orientation for A3 paper.
In such cases, if you appropriately set [Driver Processing for Data Rotation] in [Device Settings] sheet > [Details] > [Paper Source] sheet, you may be able to improve the print speed.
Set [[Fold + Trim] Function of [Saddle Stitch Setting]] manually if you have a finisher that supports the function.
Set [Offset When Staple Specified] manually if you have a finisher that supports the function.
Set [[Specify Number of Copies to Stack] Function] manually if you are using a stacker.
If you change the name of the device, some profile settings registered in the driver (profiles added from the document properties) will be deleted. If you want to save the profiles, before changing the name of the device, save the profile settings as a file, and import the saved file after changing the name of the device.
For the UFR II/LIPSLX driver
Depending on the device you are using, the print result may be incorrect if long-sized paper is set as the custom paper size and the print orientation is set to landscape orientation. In this case, acquire the device information or set [Device Settings] sheet > [Details] > [Page Setup] sheet > [Rotate Data When Long Paper Printing] > [On].
For the PCL6 driver
Depending on the device you are using, the print result may be incorrect if long-sized paper is set as the custom paper size and the print orientation is set to landscape orientation. In this case, acquire the device information or set [Device Settings] sheet > [Details] > [Page Setup] sheet > [Rotate Data When Long Paper Printing] > [On].
When creating an overlay form on one computer, you cannot specify another computer in the network as the location to save the new form file.
Even if you enable the speed priority function in [Compression Processing for Data Transfer], depending on the environment you are using and the print data, printing may take even more time than when the image priority function has been enabled.
Certain TrueType fonts may not be printed correctly. If this occurs, you should disable the [Use Printer Fonts] setting in the [Advanced Settings] dialog box to ensure that all fonts are downloaded with the document, rather than using only those fonts that reside in the printer. The [Advanced Settings] dialog box is displayed by clicking the [Advanced Settings] button in the [Quality] sheet.
Rotated text will not be printed correctly with some applications when [TrueType Mode] is set to [Download as TrueType] or [Download as Bit Image] in the [Advanced Settings] dialog box. The [Advanced Settings] dialog box is displayed by clicking the [Advanced Settings] button in the [Quality] sheet.
When you use the creasing function, there may be cases where the paper is not creased or is creased in a direction other than the direction you intended to crease.
For the PS3 driver
PostScript does not support ROP (Raster Operation). Therefore, printing may not be performed correctly if ROP processing is specified from the application.
When printing from Illustrator CS, a message is displayed that shows the PPD file you specified is invalid. However, clicking [OK] in the message box continues printing.
Some applications send the PostScript command to the printer directly when using the PostScript printer driver. For these applications, the following functions may not be available.
From the [Basic Settings]/[Page Setup] sheet: [Page Layout], [Manual Scaling]
From the [Page Setup] sheet: [Watermark]
From the [Basic Settings]/[Finishing] sheet: [Collate], [Staple + Collate] (For printers where an optional hard disk is not installed)
From the [Paper Source] sheet: [Paper Selection]
From the [Quality] sheet: [Print as Negative Image], [Print as Mirror Image]
*** You can use the above functions when the [PS Output from Application] setting in the [Device Settings] sheet is set to [Off].
